Our first Warre bee hive is complete and full of bees!
We’ve constructed the hive from pallet wood (courtesy of our local Alfa-Romeo car dealership in Haverfordwest), viewing windows from greenhouse glass (from of our local Freecycle group) and our beekeeping friend kindly let us use his wood workshop to trim the lengths of wood and ‘biscuit joint’ the main boxes together. The insulation for the windows came from a builders skip en’route to visiting family in Bristol. We also found the ratchet strap lying at the side of a road!
The only thing we had to buy was the exterior plywood boards on the roof. As you can see below; those delaminated & curved up within a week (thanks for that Jewsons, we will pop in for a little chat about that).
The amazing swarm of bees came from just down the road and fortunately for us, they wanted to move in!….
